Based on a written agreement between Duquesne Light Company (DLC) and the landlord or property owner/manager, electricity will not be turned off when tenants move and terminate their accounts. Instead the service is transferred to the property manager's name and the bill is sent to the property manager's address. Landlords and property managers benefit in several ways:
- The Service Application Charge is waived when properties covered by this program transfer into your name.
- Heat remains available to protect your property during cold weather.
- Service is available for post-occupancy repairs and renovation and for showing the property to prospective tenants.
For properties not covered by the Continuance of Service Agreement Program, meters are turned off when a tenant calls to discontinue service, unless another tenant or landlord contacts DLC to begin service at the property.
Protect your properties and make sure electric is kept on when a former tenant moves. To sign up for the Continuance of Service Agreement Program, please download and complete the form linked below, then save it in Excel or XML format and submit to the email address on the form. Upon receipt and confirmation, you will be enrolled in the program within 1-2 weeks.
